Note

An aldose is a monosaccharide that contains only one aldehyde group per molecule, located at a terminal carbon. It has the chemical formula H[CH(OH)]nC(=O)H, where n is equal or greater than 2. The definition of aldose also includes the intramolecular hemiacetals of such compounds. Aldoses can isomerize into |FRAME: Ketoses ketoses|.
